Free: 20 minutes, up to 2 transcripts. The transcript keeps the video's original language.

How it works

1

Paste a link

Copy a share link from YouTube, X, TikTok, Vimeo, Dropbox, Google Drive and more.

2

We read or listen

Captions are used when the video has them. Otherwise the audio is transcribed by AI.

3

Get the text

The words as they were spoken, split into paragraphs. Copy it or download TXT and SRT.

A YouTube transcript generator that keeps the original words

Paste any public YouTube link: regular videos, Shorts or live replays. If the video has captions in the language it was recorded in, the transcript is ready in a few seconds.

Videos without captions, or with only translated captions, are transcribed from the audio instead, so you still get the words that were actually said. Download a TXT file, or an SRT file with timestamps for subtitles.

FAQ

Can I get a transcript of a YouTube video with no captions?

Yes. We transcribe the audio when there are no captions in the original language.

Does it work with YouTube Shorts?

Yes. Copy the Shorts link from the share menu and paste it here.

Do I need an account?

No. You can transcribe 20 minutes, in up to 2 transcripts, without signing up.

Can I upload a file?

Yes. Upload audio or video files up to 10 hours long or 5 GB. Your browser extracts the audio first, so only the sound is uploaded and long videos go up quickly. Files are deleted as soon as the transcript is ready.

Which AI models do you use?

Existing YouTube captions when the video has them in its original language. Otherwise Whisper large-v3, the most accurate open model from OpenAI, transcribes the audio. With speaker recognition on, a speaker detection model also labels who is speaking. No other AI rewrites the text. See our Acceptable Use Policy.

Can it tell who is speaking?

Yes. Turn on Recognize speakers under the link box. The number of speakers is detected automatically, and the transcript is split into Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on. It works for links and uploaded files.

Which languages are supported?

Most major languages. The transcript stays in the language spoken in the video.

Which links work?

Public videos and audio on YouTube (including Shorts), X, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Dailymotion, Twitch, Loom, Bilibili and dozens of other sites; files shared from Dropbox or Google Drive (set to "Anyone with the link"); and direct links to audio or video files such as MP3, MP4, M4A or WAV. The link must be publicly accessible. Private, password-protected and copy-protected (DRM) videos can't be transcribed.

Do you keep the video?

No. Audio is deleted right after transcription. Signed-in users can delete transcripts from their history at any time.
